We are pleased to offer the following services at Animal Hospital of Thousand Oaks

Based on your pet’s age and prior medical history we recommend at a minimum an annual complete physical examination for every pet. Pet’s lives change and they age much more rapidly than we do. Our doctors perform a thorough examination of your pet and discuss with you: nutrition and weight management, flea and tick control, heartworm prevention, internal parasite control, behavioral issues, vaccinations, travel history, and recommendations regarding further diagnostic tests and/or procedures (dental care, growth removal, etc.).

We tailor your pet’s vaccinations to their lifestyle. Over-vaccinating a pet is not only costly but may prove seriously detrimental to their health. Our veterinarians continually stay apprised of the latest vaccine protocols for your pet. After discussing your pets activities, exposure to other pets and wildlife and travel we will help you decide which vaccinations are appropriate for your pet.

We also offer Walk-In Hours for non doctor related services such as vaccinations, pedicures and anal gland expressions. These services do not require a doctor visit and are available to you and your pet Monday through Friday from 9:00am-11:00am and 3:00pm-5:00pm and on Saturdays from 9:00am-1:00pm.

We pride ourselves on taking high quality digital radiographs of your pet. Upon completing your pet’s x-rays our doctors review them with you and thoroughly answer any questions you may have. If necessary we are easily able to copy or electronically transmit your pet’s x-rays for specialist examination and consultation.  The majority of our digital x-rays are reviewed the next day by a Board Certified Radiologist.  Ultrasound examinations may be scheduled with a specialist in pet ultrasonography.

We have a state of the art in-house laboratory for accurate same-day results. This allows us to rapidly diagnose critical patients and screen patients for anesthesia as well as monitor closely our hospitalized patients. We also have access to a large commercial veterinary laboratory as well as many veterinary university laboratories for specialized diagnostic tests and professional consultations.

All of our surgery and dental patients are carefully screened with a pre-operative examination and necessary laboratory tests prior to anesthesia. Pets in our surgical suite are diligently monitored by superbly trained staff members. Our anesthetic protocols and monitoring equipment are state of the art, providing an extra margin of safety for your pet. Anesthetic and pain medications are individually chosen based on your pet’s age, breed and any medical conditions. We offer elective procedures (spays, neuters, growth removals, etc) as well as soft tissue, gastrointestinal and orthopedic procedures. A board certified surgical specialist is available for scheduling advanced procedures.

Keeping your pet’s teeth healthy with routine veterinary cleanings and home care is vital to their overall health. Infected teeth can lead to bad breath, premature tooth loss, and infections of the heart, kidneys and liver.

During your pet’s dental procedure we clean each tooth above and below the gum line, and measure pocket depth in several areas around each tooth along with performing a thorough oral exam. If additional procedures (dental x-rays, extractions, etc) are necessary we call you to discuss them. Prior to recovery your pet’s teeth are thoroughly polished and fluoride is applied.

Occasionally a pet may need advanced diagnostics or to see a specialist. Our veterinarians work closely with and can recommend specialists in cardiology, dermatology, ultrasonography, endoscopy, neurology, ophthalmology, acupuncture, and holistic medicine. If necessary we can also request CT scans and MRI. We also work closely with pet cancer treatment specialists to ensure the best care for our patients.

For your convenience we can provide most of your pets prescribed medications. Please let us know if you are experiencing difficulty medicating your pet. Many times we can order alternatives to your pet’s medications that may be easier for you to administer. Some medications can be ordered in liquid form, chewables, flavored or made so they can be applied topically.

Our appointment book is computerized which allows us to efficiently make appointments for you and your pet. Our receptionists and team will attempt to accommodate all requests to the best of our ability.  If you prefer, our PetPartner App allows you to book appointments with us and review your pets vaccine reminders on your mobile device.  Appointments may also be requested through this website. Emergencies are accepted anytime our clinic is open. If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, please call us or come to the hospital immediately. If possible it is best to call before coming in so that a staff member can advise you on your particular emergency, and we are fully prepared for your pets type of emergency when you arrive.

Emergency & Urgent Care

We have a veterinarian and personnel on duty 6 days a week who are trained and equipped to handle any urgent care your pet may need. Emergencies can be things such as snail bait poisoning, hit by car, and chocolate ingestion. If you ever feel that your pet needs emergency treatment do not hesitate to call our office. It best to call before coming in so that a team member can advise you on your particular emergency, and we are fully prepared for your pets type of emergency when you arrive.
